Business Yips

The sport of gymnastics has the idea of twisties (also known as "yips" in other sports) that causes sudden and severe performance failure in high performing athletes and that early studies show that there is indeed something different happening in the brain that causes them. It is widely understood that athletes with the twisties/yips must stop competing for some period of time and engage in a treatment plan to recover from them.

How interesting that EEG readings of those with burnout also show that something different is happening in the brain, yet the standard response to burnout in high performing people in business ranges from "not real" to "take a long weekend." Few and far between are the organizations that treat burnout as a serious issue that can't be solved with a spa or golf day.

The differences in how both brain related performance concerns are treated in their respective fields is food for thought.
